Stonewall Peak - Peak #2

Stonewall Peak
Elevation: 5,730 ft
Miles: 4.0
Location: California, United States

After hiking to the top of Cuyamaca Peak, I decided to conquer Stonewall Peak while I still had the time. It is located next to Cuyamaca Peak and the trailhead was across the road from Paso Picacho Campground.

I started the hike at approximately 3 p.m. The sign stated that it was a 2 mile hike to the summit so I knew I would return back before the sun set behind the surrounding mountains. The trail was fairly easy to follow. It has many switchbacks which made it easier to hike as the elevation gradually rose with each turn.

I decided to make a quick stop in the trail to snap a few photos of Cuyamaca Peak which left me with a feeling of accomplishment knowing that I summited the second highest peak in San Diego County. Half an hour into the hike, I noticed that low level clouds were starting to roll in.

I quickly made my way back up on the trail to ensure I wasn't caught in the middle of the incoming clouds. After about an hour of total one way hike up the trail, I finally reached the summit. This mountain wasn't any different then Cuyamaca Peak. Strong cold winds blew over the top of the summit. However, view of the scenery was limited due to the poor visibility from the surrounding clouds.

After taking a break and eating a snack at the peak, I decided to head back down the way I came from before nightfall.
